Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
